About Birmingham CCTV Drain Survey
Professional drain survey engineers based in Birmingham, covering every part of the city and the wider West Midlands. We know Birmingham's drainage — because we work in it every day.
Specialist Drain Survey Engineers in Birmingham
Birmingham's drainage network is unlike anywhere else in the UK. The city's rapid industrial growth in the 1800s produced one of the most complex combined sewer systems in the country — Victorian clay pipes and brick-built egg-shaped channels running beneath Digbeth, Aston, and the Jewellery Quarter. Post-war expansion added concrete and pitch fibre drainage across the new estates at Castle Vale and Chelmsley Wood. Today, Eastside and the Curzon Street HS2 zone are laying modern plastic drainage around infrastructure that dates to the reign of Queen Victoria. Understanding Birmingham's drains means understanding that history.
We are local drain survey specialists working exclusively across Birmingham and the West Midlands. Our engineers are not called in from a regional hub — they live and work in the city. That means we understand the specific drainage challenges that come with an Edgbaston Victorian terrace, a Harborne Edwardian semi, a Selly Oak student HMO, or a commercial unit in Digbeth's creative quarter.
What We Do
We carry out professional CCTV drain surveys for homeowners, property buyers, landlords, housing associations, developers, and commercial operators. Every survey uses high-definition push-rod or crawler cameras suitable for pipes from 50mm domestic drains up to large-diameter commercial pipework. Our equipment handles Birmingham's varied pipe stock — including the egg-shaped and partially-blocked Victorian sewers that lower-spec cameras cannot navigate.
Every survey produces a written report the same day or the following morning. Reports include HD footage with frame-accurate defect timestamps, a WRc-coded defect schedule, measured locations referenced from the nearest inspection chamber, and clear repair recommendations. The format is accepted by solicitors handling property transactions, by Severn Trent Water in boundary and adoption disputes, and by property insurers assessing drainage-related claims.
Our Coverage Across the West Midlands
We cover all of Birmingham and the surrounding West Midlands boroughs. That includes Edgbaston, Sutton Coldfield, Harborne, Moseley, Selly Oak, Erdington, Handsworth, Acocks Green, Hall Green, and Solihull to the south-east. We also serve Sandwell, Dudley, Walsall, and Wolverhampton. There are no additional travel charges for any location within this area — our pricing is the same wherever you are.
Same-day availability is standard across most of Birmingham. For pre-purchase surveys tied to a completion deadline, we prioritise fast turnaround so your transaction does not stall. See our full locations page for detail on every area we cover.
Working with Severn Trent Water
Severn Trent Water is responsible for the public sewer network beneath Birmingham's roads. Private drains within your property boundary remain your responsibility. Shared drainage serving more than one property was transferred to Severn Trent under the 2011 Private Sewer Transfer — but only for pipes built before July 2011. Boundary disputes are common in Birmingham's tightly-packed terraces and converted Victorian properties. Our survey reports carry enough technical detail to be used in formal correspondence with Severn Trent and in legal proceedings if required.
Our full range of services covers every drainage inspection need, from a quick homebuyer check to a full commercial drain mapping exercise. If you are not sure which service you need, contact us and we will advise you — at no charge.
